Born on January 15, 1913 in San Leandro, California, Lloyd Bridges grew up with his parents, Lloyd Vernet Bridges Sr. and Harriet Evelyn Bridges. His father worked in the hotel business in California and at one time owned a movie theater. Bridges attended Petaluma High School and graduated in 1930. Later, he enrolled at UCLA, where he studied political science and joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Personal Life
While attending college, Bridges met his future wife, Dorothy. They married in 1938 in New York City and had four children: Beau, Jeff, Lucinda, and Garrett. Unfortunately, their son Garrett passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome as an infant. In 1988, on their 50th wedding anniversary, Lloyd and Dorothy renewed their vows. Lloyd Bridges passed away in 1998 at the age of 85 due to natural causes. In 2011, he was posthumously honored with the Lone Sailor Award, recognizing his successful career as a former Coast Guard serviceman. Both of his sons, Beau and Jeff, also received the same award as they too served in the Coast Guard.
Real Estate
In the 1950s, Lloyd and Dorothy Bridges purchased an oceanfront home in Malibu for a nominal amount of money. Today, the property could be valued at $4 – 6 million.
