Irish Researchers Receive EU Grants to Commercialise Biomedical Research

This esteemed group of Irish researchers is part of a select cohort of 66 individuals from across Europe who have been granted funding to explore the commercial and societal implications of their research findings.

Daniel Kelly, based at Trinity College Dublin, has been recognized for his pioneering work on the development of melt electro-writing of multilayered scaffolds for osteochondral defect repair, known as MEMS.

Martin O'Halloran, from the University of Galway, will be focusing on NeuroProtect, an innovative therapy that aims to prevent chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. He is also a noteworthy co-founder of Luminate Medical, a Galway-based start-up that specializes in creating medical devices to minimize the side effects of cancer treatments.

Dimitrios Zeugolis, a full professor at the UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, has been granted funding for his project titled Decellularised Extracellular Carpets for the Innovative Production of Human Engineered Replicates, or Decipher. Building upon his prior research on macromolecular crowding in cell culture systems, Zeugolis aims to leverage this knowledge in the fields of cell culture technologies, medical devices, and regenerative medicine. His groundbreaking work has the potential to revolutionize these industries.
