CD Projekt Red, the renowned video game developer behind hits like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher series, has recently announced a significant restructuring that includes laying off 100 employees. The company states that these changes are necessary to undergo "several deep transformations" and improve its development process, ultimately creating a more agile and effective team.

CD Projekt Red's CEO, Adam Kicinski, explained the reasoning behind the layoffs, stating, "To meet our own high expectations and ambitions to create the best role-playing games, we not only want to have the best people but also the right teams." The company acknowledges that it is currently "overstaffed" and needs to align its workforce with the specific needs of its ongoing projects. As a result, the layoffs will be carried out gradually over the next few months, with some employees leaving by March 2024.

These recent layoffs follow the conclusion of Gwent's development, which led to the departure of the remaining team members. Additionally, the Witcher game Project Sirius underwent significant changes, resulting in the layoff of more than 25 employees. Despite these adjustments, CD Projekt Red has several major projects in the pipeline, including a major expansion for an existing game, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, a new trilogy of Witcher games, and an internally-developed IP known as Project Hadar.
