According to his friend Athenna Crosby, Perry wanted Zac Efron to portray a younger version of himself. The two actors previously worked together in the 2009 film "17 Again," where they played younger and older versions of the same character.

Crosby revealed that Perry had shared his plans to make a movie about his life and his recovery from addiction. He was optimistic and excited about championing the cause to help more people. Unfortunately, Perry passed away in October at the age of 54, before he could pursue his project.
