Coaching Career
Tom Coughlin began coaching at the collegiate level in the early 70s, beginning at Rochester Institute of Technology, and then moving to Syracuse University, and finally to Boston College.
After two seasons with Boston College, he became the wide receivers' coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.
He then moved on to the Green Bay Packers, returned to Boston College, and then became head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 1995-2002.
Coughlin's first five seasons with the Jaguars were incredibly successful and they made it to the AFC Championship game twice.
He was named NFL Coach of the Year for 1996.
However, his later seasons were considerably less spectacular, and he was ultimately let go.
He became head coach for the New York Giants in 2004, and had multiple ups and downs with the team.

Personal Life
In 1967 Tom Coughlin married his wife, Judy, and the couple had two daughters, Keli and Katie, and two sons, Brian and Tim.
In 2021, Judy was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, and she passed away on November 2, 2022.
Tom has 11 grandchildren.
He created the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation in 1996
while coaching at Jacksonville to assist children with leukemia and other cancers by providing emotional and financial support.
It was named after Jay McGillis, a Boston College player who passed away from leukemia during Coughlin's tenure as head coach.
As of 2020, the foundation had helped over 5,000 families of children with cancer with more than $13 million.
