Escaped Circus Lion Safely Recaptured in Italian Coastal Town
A startling incident unfolded in the coastal town of Ladispoli near Rome, where a circus lion was on the loose for several hours before being safely recaptured.

The local mayor took to social media to inform the public that the lion had been sedated and secured by circus staff after at least five hours of roaming free, causing a wave of concern among the residents.

βThe lion has been sedated and captured. It will now be handed over by the circus staff. I thank the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Fire Department, the local and provincial police, the Asl [Local Health Authority], and all the volunteers who served during these hours of great apprehension,β the mayor expressed his gratitude in a statement.
In a subsequent remark, he expressed hope that the incident would challenge views on animal exploitation, stating, βI hope that this episode will stir some consciences, and that we can finally put an end to the exploitation of animals in circuses.β
Residents Urged to Stay Indoors
Upon learning of the lion's escape, the mayor swiftly alerted citizens, advising them to remain indoors and exercise caution until the situation was resolved.

However, the lion managed to elude authorities, vanishing into a thick reedbed before reappearing within the town limits, sparking another round of pursuit.
Addressing how the lion managed to flee, the mayor disclosed a possibly criminal act: βA member of the circus staff saw three people running away and found a broken lock at the circus. They are talking about sabotage,β revealing that an investigation would unfold.

The lion, named Kimba, was spotted wandering the streets of Ladispoli, with footage captured by locals showing the animal moving amidst parked cars and residential areas.
To ensure the lion's capture, veterinarians utilized a specialized dart fitted with a geolocator, which eventually allowed them to locate and surround Kimba near a school.
Reports from the scene confirmed that although the lion was frightened and suffering mild hypothermia, it was generally in good health.

The Carabinieri are now conducting an official investigation into the extraordinary escape.
The Organization for the Protection of Animals (OIPA) commented on the situation, emphasizing the inherent risks of animal circuses to public safety and animal welfare, and expressed a desire for legislation to prohibit such circuses.
